All signs point towards playing joining Newcastle United – Snubs Manchester United

Newcastle United have made concrete advances in their pursuit of CA Osasuna’s Víctor Muñoz, and are ahead despite interest from Manchester United and others.

The Premier League side identified the winger as the top target to replace Anthony Gordon, who completed a move to Barcelona in May.

Three days ago, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that Newcastle United are offering the best deal.

At the weekend, we relayed news the Magpies should soon find an agreement for the Spain international’s transfer.

What’s pending for Newcastle United agreement

That hasn’t happened yet and Diario de Navarra, a newspaper local to the La Liga side, cover the latest.

Víctor Muñoz has a €40m release clause while Eddie Howe’s side are offering just over €30m plus bonuses.

He’s ‘one final push’ away from making a switch to St. James’ Park and ‘all signs point to a departure in the next few hours’.

CA Osasuna are waiting for a written offer from Newcastle United and that hadn’t arrive by Sunday afternoon.

The negotiations are being led by his agent, Juanma López, and several rounds of talks have led to ‘this final understanding’. The Premier League side need to convert this into a formal written offer and the Spanish club then have to accept it.

When this happens, Osasuna have an obligation to inform Real Madrid about this offer. They retain a buyback clause and 50% of his rights. Los Blancos will then have 48 hours to make a decision on whether or not to activate the buyback clause.

Manchester United and Liverpool contact

Real Madrid never activated the buyback clause or the right of first refusal.

That’s according to Monday’s edition of AS, who add the Spanish giants never opposed the Newcastle United move mainly because CA Osasuna and Víctor Muñoz wanted this.

However, AS state: ‘Real Madrid have secured a buy-back option for one season in the three-way deal that is about to be finalised between Osasuna, Newcastle and Muñoz.’

Los Blancos can bring him back to the club next summer, without the newspaper mentioning the figure.

Manchester United, Liverpool and a few other clubs also made contact. The 22-year-old decided to pick the Magpies because the ‘idea of joining the team from the north of England has always been the strongest.’

He was clear that playing time is important and believes can enjoy regular minutes under Eddie Howe.

To sum it up, the Spaniard won’t return to Real Madrid, who have secured a buyback option valid for 2027. He will move to Newcastle United, and Osasuna are now awaiting their written offer.
