West Ham “Deeply Incensed” as PGMOL Apology Fails to Calm Arsenal VAR Storm

– West Ham United have launched a scathing “urgent statement” directed at the Premier League and the PGMOL following a chaotic 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at the London Stadium. The Hammers’ hierarchy has labeled the officiating an “existential threat to the game’s integrity” after a 95th-minute equalizer from Callum Wilson was controversially chalked off following a marathon VAR review.
The flashpoint occurred deep into stoppage time when Wilson bundled home a loose ball. However, referee Chris Kavanagh was sent to the pitchside monitor to review a collision between Pablo Felipe and Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya. After watching a staggering 17 replays, Kavanagh overturned his initial decision, adjudging that Felipe had impeded Raya’s arm.
”An Obvious Injustice”
In an official statement released just hours after the final whistle, West Ham did not hold back, accusing the Premier League Match Centre of issuing “contradictory and misleading” explanations for the reversal.
The club stated:
”We are deeply incensed by the explanation provided by the Premier League. To suggest that a natural aerial challenge constitutes a ‘clear and obvious error’ is a gross distortion of the rules. This decision has not only cost us a vital point in our battle for survival but has once again highlighted a systemic failure in how VAR is being implemented in the world’s most watched league.”
