Daniel Farke was shown a red card after Leeds United’s defeat to Manchester City on Saturday
Daniel Farke has been charged with alleged misconduct by the Football Association following his red card after full-time against Manchester City on Saturday.
The Leeds United boss was shown a straight red card by referee Peter Bankes, having jogged up to the official after full-time to enquire about why added time was not extended following time-wasting incidents from the City players.
Farke – who said the fourth official had told him that time would be added on – insists that he should “never” have been shown a red card, claiming that he had not managed to finish his sentence before being dismissed by Bankes.
Despite red cards incurring a one-match touchline ban for managers, Farke was on the touchline for Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat to Sunderland with the FA not levelling the charge ahead of kick-off.
The German had considered appealing the red card, with the club confident that the ‘refcam’ footage would absolve him from wrongdoing.
However, amid the risk of a two-game ban upon an unsuccessful appeal, Farke could take the hit and sit out Sunday’s FA Cup fifth round tie against Norwich City. No decision had been pre-made and Farke has until Friday to decide whether to launch an appeal.
