Liam Delap has now made a decision on joining Everton

Everton are keen to sign Liam Delap from Chelsea this summer.

David Moyes wanted the England U21 international at the Hill Dickinson Stadium last year – even holding talks with the former Manchester City striker which are said to have gone well – and remain interested in his services.

The 23-year-old was unable to resist the temptation of playing in the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea despite those positive talks with the Toffees, although his £30m move from Ipswich has yet to work out with only two goals in 37 appearances across all competitions.

Despite that, the Telegraph believe Liam Delap wants to stay and fight for his spot under a new manager at Stamford Bridge rather than move to Everton.

Liam Delap keen to stay at Chelsea

It is said that the Chelsea No.9 is aiming to finish this campaign as strongly as possible, before returning to Cobham for pre-season and hopefully working his way into the plans of whoever replaces Liam Rosenior.

Everton believe Moyes will improve Delap and are eager to take him away from his nightmare at Chelsea.

The Glaswegian has already helped one man who struggled to assert himself at Stamford Bridge in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who is in line to win the Player of the Season award at Everton this term after netting eight goals and providing six assists in 27 Premier League appearances.

However, there will be little The Friedkin Group can do about the situation if Delap digs his heels in and insists on staying in west London, where he remains under contract until July 2031.

The Telegraph suggest Chelsea could look to force the striker out depending on what happens with other players – Nicolas Jackson and Emmanuel Emegha are set to return from loans at Bayern Munich and Strasbourg respectively, while Joao Pedro and Marc Guiu are already at Stamford Bridge.

So, there may still be hope for Everton if Chelsea decide to force Delap out.
