Rangers managerial merry go round set to begin after Danny Rohl agrees move.
Rangers are closing in on the appointment of Hearts head coach Derek McInnes as their new boss after a deal was agreed for Danny Rohl to join RB Salzburg.
According to a report from Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Rohl’s eight-month stint at Rangers is set to come to a premature end, with the German boss having sealed a deal that will see him join Austrian Bundesliga club RB Salzburg.
The two clubs have been locked in negotiations over a deal for the 37-year-old over the last 72 hours after RB Salzburg identified Rohl as the man they want to oversee a summer overhaul, with the club having missed out on Champions League qualification after a disappointing third-place finish last season. It is understood that Rangers will receive a seven-figure fee for the head coach.

Under pressure at Rangers in the final weeks of the campaign after a four-game losing streak saw them fall out of the Premiership title race , the former Sheffield Wednesday boss was publicly backed by chairman Andrew Cavenagh last month, saying: “Danny is our coach, we think that Danny gives us the best opportunity to win the league next year. We think there are two really important things that he needs, one is a pre-season, and the most important one is a revamped squad.”
However, while Rohl has not requested a move, the switch to Salzburg allows the German to be closer to his family, who remained on the continent despite his appointment in Glasgow last October. It is understood that Cavenagh had requested a swift conclusion to proceedings, with the club keen to begin work in the summer transfer window.

With Rohl’s move all but confirmed, Rangers have moved quickly to secure a deal to appoint Hearts’ McInnes as their new head coach. According to another report from Romano, the deal that will see the 54-year-old join the club has been fully agreed, with just formal steps to follow.
Minutes away from masterminding a memorable title win for Hearts last month, he was pipped at the post by Celtic on the final day of the season, but was still named the Scottish Premiership manager of the year after a sterling debut campaign at Tynecastle. The departure of McInnes will be a body blow to the Jambos, who have also seen former captain and talisman Lawrence Shankland move to Rangers on a free transfer this summer.
Elsewhere, Russell Martin – the man Rohl replaced at Rangers – is set for a return to football after agreeing terms with recently relegated EFL League One side Leicester City. The 40-year-old manager has been out of work since being sacked in Govan in 251 days ago, having won just one of his opening seven league games in charge.
As per reports, Martin will be appointed as the manager of the Foxes, beating off competition from former Go Ahead Eagles head coach Rene Hake to replace Gary Rowett, who was sacked last month.
