Newcastle readying approach to sign Gordon replacement in £30m deal

Latest on Bayern Munich’s Anthony Gordon move

It’s déjà vu for Newcastle ahead of the summer transfer window. Last time out, it was Alexander Isak who looked destined to leave before securing a record move to Liverpool. Now, one year later, Bayern Munich’s interest in Gordon is set to create another unwanted transfer saga for the Magpies.

Eddie Howe may have dropped a hint about the transfer window after the game against Nottingham Forest last weekend, telling reporters: “I think we’ve got one eye on the future. I think that’s been clear with some of the decisions that I’ve made with the team. We want to see some players and see how they’re going to grow into the team.”

Gordon was sidelined with injury, but was back on the bench last weekend and failed to emerge. The talented winger has already received contact from Bayern and that move will be near-impossible to turn down.

He’s “similar to Mbappe”: Newcastle have already signed Gordon’s replacement

Newcastle may have already signed their replacement for Anthony Gordon ahead of the summer transfer window.

That hands Newcastle a major problem. In a dysfunctional attack, Gordon has provided the one bright spark this season. Take him out and the rebuild job becomes even tougher this summer.

Alas, it’s one that the Magpies may be forced into and they’re already assessing their options as a result, even turning towards a relegated attacking star.

Newcastle readying Jaidon Anthony approach

According to SportsBoom, Newcastle are readying an approach to sign Anthony from Burnley this summer. The relegated Clarets have set an asking price of £30m ahead of the transfer window, which should be reachable even without European qualification for the Magpies.

Whether Anthony would solve the Magpies’ Gordon problem is another question, though. The winger has impressed at times for Burnley this season and even though it’s easy to write him off, the numbers suggest he is more than capable of replacing Gordon.

Anthony has outperformed the Newcastle star in several key departments this season and has, most crucially, been clinical in front of goal.

Former Burnley boss Scott Parker was so often full of praise for his forward, telling reporters earlier this season: “Unbelievable character. Diligent. Hugely professional. Always wants to improve. His raw ability added to that is what we all see. It gives him massive chances and you see it in his performances at the moment.”

So, whilst he may be a surprising option, Anthony could prove to be excellent business if Newcastle push on and land his signature this summer.
