Roy Keane completely dismantled Sunderland star calling him ‘clueless’ after silly mistakes that cost them match vs Aston Villa

Roy Keane Slams Sunderland Star for ‘Shocking’ Display in Villa Park Thriller

In a pulsating Premier League encounter at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon, Aston Villa edged Sunderland 4-3 in a seven-goal classic that had fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle. Ollie Watkins opened the scoring with a close-range header in the second minute and added a second on 36 minutes, while Morgan Rogers made it 3-1 shortly after the restart. Sunderland showed real fight, with teenager Chris Rigg pulling one back in the ninth minute, before Trai Hume and Wilson Isidor struck in the 86th and 87th minutes to level the score in a remarkable 58-second blitz.

But Tammy Abraham, introduced as a substitute, had the last laugh, firing home a stoppage-time winner in the 93rd minute to hand Villa a vital three points in their Champions League push. For Sunderland, it was a painful reminder of their fragility at the back despite a spirited comeback.

Speaking on Sky Sports immediately after the match, Roy Keane was in no mood to celebrate the Black Cats’ late resurgence. The former Sunderland manager singled out star midfielder Enzo Le Fée for particular criticism, branding his performance “shocking” and “not good enough at this level.”

“I watched Le Fée closely and he was anonymous for long spells,” Keane said. “You’re a supposed creative spark, you’re meant to be driving the team forward, but he gave the ball away too cheaply and offered nothing when it mattered. Sunderland came back late, but that’s no excuse – you can’t hide on the big stage like this. Poor decision-making, lack of intensity… it’s the sort of display that costs you points.”

Keane, never one to mince his words, added that the 23-year-old Frenchman “needs to look himself in the mirror” if Sunderland are to climb the table. Le Fée, who has been one of the Black Cats’ standout performers this season with four goals and several assists, was unusually quiet and was eventually substituted late on.

The defeat leaves Sunderland in mid-table, with manager Régis Le Bris now facing questions over defensive organisation. Keane’s blunt assessment will sting, but it may serve as the wake-up call the side needs ahead of a tough run of fixtures.
