Jack Harrison left Leeds United on loan in January but has struggled for form with Fiorentina.
Leeds United look set to welcome Jack Harrison back this summer amid reports Fiorentina chiefs are not ‘keen’ on making his loan move permanent.
Harrison joined Fiorentina on loan in January having barely featured for Leeds in the first-half of the season. He started just once in the Premier League – a 1-0 defeat at Burnley in which several wingers were injured – and made 10 substitute appearances, failing to register a goal or assist.
“I would have preferred him to stay with us because we don’t have that many wing-back options,” Daniel Farke said of Harrison. “But if then it’s his big wish – and he has behaved in a top way and he also has arguments because he has not played that much – then we are also open to listen to the wishes of the player.”
Harrison’s move to Fiorentina progressed quickly with the Serie A side in desperate need of wingers. They signed the Leeds man on a six-month loan which, as the YEP reported at the time, includes an option to buy worth around £6million.
The 29-year-old has since made 13 appearances across all competitions for Fiorentina, starting seven, but is yet to open his goalscoring account. The winger registered an assist in a 2-2 draw with Torino but has struggled to make a significant attacking impact.
A report from Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport now claims Fiorentina aren’t currently looking to trigger Harrison’s £6m ‘right to buy’, with club chiefs ‘not particularly keen’ on making that financial commitment to the Leeds loanee. They add that as things stand, he will return to West Yorkshire this summer.
Fiorentina are still in a fight to survive in Serie A this season, with two places and two points separating them from Lecce in the third relegation place and eight games to play. According to the report, survival would see a number of permanent clauses worth around €27m (£23.5m) automatically triggered.
Fiorentina Harrison stance as Leeds United return mooted
That would obviously take a chunk out of their summer budget which, the report suggests, leaves them with a decision to make on two wide loanees whose permanent options will not be automatically triggered. Alongside Harrison, 2024/25 Championship title-winner Manor Solomon joined in January.
Solomon could be signed permanently for around £8.7m this summer but having scored twice in 11 appearances, he has outshone Harrison in Florence. As such, the Corriere dello Sport report suggests he remains an ‘ideal candidate’ to keep hold of this summer so long as lingering fitness concerns can be put to bed.
The report therefore concludes that ‘unless there’s a sudden change of direction’ among the Fiorentina decision-makers, Harrison will not sign permanently and is instead set for a return to Leeds. The out-of-favour winger will still have two years left on his Elland Road contract this summer.
Harrison was replaced in the Leeds squad by Facundo Buonanotte, who cut short his Chelsea loan to join Farke’s side on a temporary basis until the summer. The Argentinian has barely featured, however, and regularly missed out on even being named in a matchday squad as his miserable 2025/26 campaign continues.
