FA Upholds Gabriel Gudmundsson Suspension After Selhurst Park Drama

The Football Association has confirmed that Leeds United defender Gabriel Gudmundsson will serve a one-match suspension following his controversial dismissal during Sunday’s 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace.

The Swedish left-back was sent off in first-half stoppage time at Selhurst Park after receiving a second yellow card for a challenge on Ismaila Sarr. The incident was shrouded in confusion as referee Thomas Bramall initially appeared to forget Gudmundsson had already been cautioned in the 27th minute. It was only after being surrounded by Palace players that the official brandished the red card, roughly 30 seconds after the initial foul.

Despite the bizarre sequence of events and Daniel Farke’s visible frustration on the touchline, Leeds were unable to appeal the decision. Under current FA regulations, yellow cards—even those resulting in a dismissal—cannot be overturned unless there is a case of mistaken identity.

As a result, Gudmundsson is officially ruled out of Leeds’ upcoming home clash against Brentford this Saturday. The defender, who has been a standout since his summer arrival from Lille, will be eligible to return for the FA Cup quarter-final against West Ham on April 5.
