Woman accused in death of Kansas City Super Bowl reporter charged with murder

Danette Colbert, a 48-year-old woman from Louisiana, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Adan Manzano, a 27-year-old sports reporter for Telemundo Kansas City. Manzano was found dead in his hotel room in Kenner, Louisiana, on February 5, 2025, while covering Super Bowl LIX.

Colbert was initially arrested for fraud and theft after authorities discovered she had used Manzano’s credit card at several stores in the New Orleans area. Surveillance footage from the hotel showed Colbert entering and exiting Manzano’s room around the time of his death. An autopsy revealed that Manzano’s death resulted from a combination of alcohol, Xanax (a medication he was not prescribed), and positional asphyxia.

Colbert has a documented history of fraud-related offenses and allegations of drugging and robbing individuals. Authorities are also investigating the involvement of Ricky White, an alleged accomplice who was arrested in Florida on charges of fraud and theft.

Manzano, originally from Mexico City, was a rising star in sports journalism and is remembered for his dedication and professionalism.
