  1. Melissa Vargas achieves a record in Turkey in Paris that no other Cuban volleyball player has reached.

Melissa Vargas, a Cuban-born volleyball star representing Turkey, has set remarkable records in Olympic volleyball. In a match against the Netherlands during the Paris 2024 Olympics, she became the first Cuban volleyball player to score 30 or more points in an Olympic match, achieving 30 points.Later, in a quarter-final match against China, Vargas scored 42 points, including 38 attacks, leading Turkey to a 3-2 victory and securing their first Olympic semifinal appearance. This performance is the second-highest point total in a single Olympic match, just behind Croatia’s Barbara Jelic, who scored 44 points in the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

 

Vargas’s exceptional performances have significantly contributed to Turkey’s success on the international volleyball stage.
