French President Emmanuel Macron has invited European army chiefs to Paris for a meeting scheduled next week. In a televised address, Macron emphasized the importance of Europe preparing for a scenario where U.S. support might no longer be guaranteed, highlighting the need for strengthened European defense capabilities.

 

This development coincides with significant shifts in U.S. foreign policy. The Trump administration has suspended intelligence sharing with Ukraine, a move that hampers Ukraine’s defense against Russian forces. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz indicated that the suspension could be temporary, contingent on Ukraine’s commitment to peace negotiations.

 

In response to these changes, President Macron has proposed extending France’s nuclear deterrent to cover European Union allies. He also suggested that European military forces could play a role in ensuring the enforcement of any future peace agreements concerning Ukraine.
