A mother and son tragically died in a car crash while on their way to celebrate her beating breast cancer.
Beatriz Aparecida Frederico, 33, and her youngest child, David Miguel Frederico de Oliveira, five, were on their way to a theme park when their car slammed into another vehicle during a rainstorm on Sunday in Lages, Brazil.
Beatriz was sitting in the backseat while her husband Deivid, 36, and older son Diogo, 16, were in the front of the car. The family were celebrating Beatriz being free from cancer following her final radiation treatment on June 11.
Both Deivid and Diogo were taken to a nearby hospital where they underwent surgery.
Tributes have poured in for the ‘protective’ mother and her son who were pronounced dead at the scene.
Beatriz’s cousin, Laís Dela Justina, told Floripa Newspaper that Deivis and Diogo are stable. She added that they found out about their loved ones’ deaths on Monday morning.
Emergency services have urgently requested blood donations for the father and son because their blood types are rare and in low supply.
Beatriz, described by her cousin as a ‘protective mother’, was buried alongside David in the Parque da Saudade Cemetery in Lages on Monday, according to Need To Know.
