The boys’ father called triple zero at 1pm on Tuesday after he found the bodies of his sons and his distressed and injured former partner at the family’s Faulconbridge home.

Appearing via audiovisual link from jail, Smith wore a medical gown, with a cast on one arm and a bandage on her neck. As the court discussed her case, she stared at the ground and rarely lifted her head.

Smith was represented by criminal lawyer Paul McGirr, who confirmed that no application for release on bail was to be made.

The short proceeding ended with McGirr telling Smith that he would speak to her this week.

Outside court, McGirr said there were “a lot of family members who are really hurting in respect to this”.

“Parents, grandparents and the like, and we’d ask that everyone respect that privacy because, as I said, right from emergency services who had to attend the scene … there’d be a lot of people out there that have been subjected to this,” he said.Advertisement

Smith will front Penrith Local Court on November 8.
