On Thursday, July 18, United Food and Commercial Workers Local 3000, representing 50,000 workers in retail, grocery and other sectors in the Pacific Northwest, urged Washington state’s congressional delegation to call on Biden to bow out of the race.
“If President Biden continues to demonstrate that he is unable to effectively campaign, and subsequently loses in November, the advances workers have made will be at immediate risk in a second Trump administration,” Local 3000 President Faye Guenther and Secretary-Treasurer Joe Mizrahi wrote in a letter.
The union had also backed the Uncommitted movement during the February Democratic primary, highlighting the impact of Israel’s assault on Palestinians and demanding “Biden push for a lasting cease-fire and ending U.S. funding toward this reckless war.” The union was also one of the lead signatories on what came to be a critical letter in support of a cease-fire that garnered support from more than 200 unions.
