Breaking News : Auburn tigers suspended from All sports because of Gambling…..
Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin and ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum have a history of poking fun at each other, and their preseason barbs this year provided entertainment at SEC Media Days. Kiffin took another jab at the prominent SEC voice this week in response to his prediction ahead of Auburn’s loss to California. Finebaum said there was “no chance” the Tigers would fall at home to the Golden Bears, yet Hugh Freeze’s team found itself on the wrong side of a stunning upset for the second-straight season.
“What are you good at again??” Kiffin said on social media in response to Finebaum’s prediction.
“There is no chance Auburn loses to Cal,” Finebaum said to a caller last week on The Paul Finebaum Show. “None. Book it. … I don’t wager. I just made a statement. You can take that or not. But I don’t know how I could be any more emphatic
The Tigers lost a one-score game to the Golden Bears in a stunning result. Quarterback Payton Thorne threw his fourth interception of the day to seal the 21-14 defeat, to which Freeze said the signal-caller must turn his performance around or else the Tigers will need to make a change to their starting lineup.
Former Auburn coach Bryan Harsin chimed in after the loss, too, with an apparent jab at the program which fired him midway through the 2022 season. “‘Nothing beats winning a tough battle.’ Cheers to all the Winners!” Harsin said in a social media post, igniting a reaction from Auburn fans.
The back-and-forth between Kiffin and Finebaum was a continuation of the banter that circulated throughout the 2024 offseason. The latter made multiple comments about the Ole Miss coach prior to SEC Media Days that, to some, bordered on not-so-subtle shots at Kiffin’s coaching acumen and off-the-field antics. Finebaum later clarified to Inside The Rebels, though, that it was nothing more than a playful quip toward a friend.
“Everyone in the media … is in love with Lane Kiffin,” Finebaum said this summer. “They think he’s hilarious. I don’t think he’s that funny. I don’t think his tweets are that interesting. And his coaching has been underwhelming at times,” Finebaum said earlier this month. “So, I’ll see it when I believe and I haven’t seen enough for me to believe right now.
Kiffin is in his fifth season as the Ole Miss coach and carried a roster into the campaign that expects to contend for a spot in the expanded College Football Playoff. His Rebels secured the No. 1-ranked transfer portal class and returned star quarterback Jaxson Dart, and the combination of talent was nothing short of impressive in the first two games of the year. Dart is near the front of the Heisman Trophy race, while the team as a whole is in strong position to secure a Playoff bert
