Mark Zuckerberg declares the end of mobile phones and confirms the tech that’s replacing them

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, has predicted that mobile phones will soon be replaced by smart glasses, marking a significant shift in personal technology. He envisions a future where these glasses offer features like real-time augmented reality overlays, on-the-go information access, and personalized guidance, effectively acting as always-visible personal assistants.

Zuckerberg anticipates that within the next decade, smart glasses will surpass smartphones in popularity and functionality. He suggests that by the 2030s, people will use their smartphones less frequently, favoring the convenience and seamless integration of smart glasses into daily life.

Meta is actively developing this technology through projects like Orion, aiming to create AR glasses that blend cutting-edge functionality with everyday usability. These glasses are designed to project holograms into the user’s environment and feature voice, AI, eye-tracking, hand-tracking, and a neural interface through the wrist. While the concept of replacing smartphones with smart glasses is intriguing, it faces challenges such as technical limitations, public acceptance, and privacy concerns. Nonetheless, with significant investments from companies like Meta and Apple, the development of smart glasses is progressing rapidly, indicating a potential shift in how we interact with technology in the coming years.
