Latest Deshaun Watson restructuring leaves $135 million in cap charges for future years
The Cleveland Browns have restructured quarterback Deshaun Watson’s contract to alleviate salary cap issues, clearing nearly $36 million in cap space.
This adjustment involves converting $44.745 million of Watson’s salary into a restructure bonus and voiding the 2027 season. While Watson’s base salary was reduced to $1.255 million, his overall compensation remains unchanged. The restructuring results in a $135 million cap charge for future years, extending through the 2030 season. This move indicates the Browns’ intention to retain Watson for at least the next two seasons, despite his recent injury challenges, including a second Achilles rupture that is expected to sideline him for the 2025 season.
