In the past, Sheikh Jassim’s proposed “Project Ruby” plan aimed to clear the club’s debts, remove it from the New York Stock Exchange, and announce plans for a new stadium within three days. However, his bid was unsuccessful, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s partial acquisition of a 27.7% stake in the club was completed in December 2023.
