Kris boyd dismantles Celtic and Hearts players mentality in brutal interview after giving reason why Rangers would win the SPFL
Kris Boyd has never been one for pulling punches, and on Sunday evening he delivered perhaps his most scathing assessment yet of the SPFL title race. Speaking in a post-match studio interview shortly after Hearts threw away a 2-2 draw at home, the former Rangers striker tore into the mentality of both Edinburgh and Glasgow’s challengers and insisted the Ibrox club are heading for the championship.
“Rangers will win the league,” Boyd stated flatly. “It’s not even close. Hearts don’t have the winning mentality of champions. They were 2-1 up today, had the game in their grasp, and they still couldn’t see it out. That tells you everything. You can’t win titles with players who go soft when it matters.”
Boyd saved his harshest words for Celtic. “They are an absolute poor team right now,” he said. “Poor in quality, poor in desire, poor in mentality. I watch them and I see a side that’s gone soft. They talk about the standard they’ve set over the years, but right now they’re miles off it.”
The 41-year-old, who won three league titles with Rangers, argued that only one side in the division currently possesses the steel required to lift the trophy. “Rangers have been through everything and they still come back fighting. That’s the difference. Celtic can spend what they like, Hearts can talk about their ‘new era’ all they want, but when the pressure is on, Rangers are the only team that finds another gear.”
Boyd believes the remaining fixtures will expose those weaknesses. “Hearts will drop more points because they don’t know how to win ugly. Celtic will drop more points because they’re simply not good enough. Rangers will edge past both of them. It’s mentality. Pure and simple.”
The comments have already sent shockwaves through Scottish football circles. With the title race still breathing, Boyd’s brutal verdict has thrown down the gauntlet: Rangers have the winners’ DNA, and right now neither Celtic nor Hearts do.
