Solly March set to leave Brighton as a free agent after reaching milestone against Man Utd
Solly March is set to leave Brighton as a free agent this summer, The Brighton Base can confirm.
The winger made his 300th appearance for the Seagulls over the weekend, coming on in the 59th minute to replace Diego Gomez against Manchester United. The late cameo will be March’s final appearance in an Albion shirt.
Brighton held an option to extend their No. 7’s contract by a further year, but after a series of talks, it was ultimately agreed by all parties that the versatile forward would depart after 16 years on the Sussex coast.
March joined Brighton from non-league side Lewes in 2011 and has gone on to score 26 goals and register 31 assists for the club, playing a starring role under Roberto De Zerbi, in particular, when the Seagulls qualified for the Europa League in 2023.
Long-term injuries have prevented the 31-year-old from building on that campaign since, but he will head into the summer transfer window fully fit and not short of suitors.
March made his Brighton debut back in 2012 under Oscar Garcia, where he initially broke through as an option in central midfield. He then went on to assert himself as capable of playing on both wings under several bosses, as well as a wing-back under ex-Chelsea and West Ham manager Graham Potter.
It is this versatility that is expected to catch the eye of clubs in both the Premier League and Championship, as well as his wealth of experience. Top Portuguese sides are also in the frame, though.
With Brighton set to compete in the European Conference League next season, Fabian Hurzeler’s side are shaping up to be busy in the summer transfer window as they look to ensure that they have a squad capable of competing on all fronts.
The Brighton Base revealed that the Seagulls are negotiating a deal for Olympiacos right-back Costinha last week, whilst targets have been identified in other departments as well.
