CHICAGO (CBS) — While Halloween has just ended and Thanksgiving is still weeks away, a Chicago radio station is already in full holiday mode.
93.9 LITE FM began broadcasting continuous Christmas music on Friday afternoon, marking the start of its holiday programming 54 days ahead of Christmas. This is the second time in the past three years that the station has kicked off its Christmas music marathon on November 1. For over two decades, the station has been known to begin playing holiday tunes weeks before Christmas, with its early start becoming a tradition as the years have passed.
Initially, the station would wait until the day after Thanksgiving to start its Christmas music, but due to its growing popularity, the festivities have been starting earlier each year. This year’s celebration began with Mariah Carey’s iconic “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” The station will return to its light rock format after December 25.
Listeners can tune in on 93.9 FM, visit the station’s website, or use the iHeartRadio app.
