As far as Rohl is concerned, though, there is little room for doubt as his side head into the final stretch. In a confident mood upon Rangers’ return to action this weekend, the manager told reporters: “I’m happy. I feel really good because I see my group at the moment. I also see the development.
“I think we are mentally strong. We took the win away against St Mirren, the pressure was on after two draws (against Livingston and Celtic), but we came back and we made a very good performance.
“A nice performance against Aberdeen, we used the chance and it gives me a lot of belief. There is no doubt my group is strong, convinced, and we have the quality to win the league. Yeah, in general we are looking forward to this game. We want to take the next ‘cup’ win tomorrow. We said this many times.”
If all goes well, Rangers could close the gap once and for all on Hearts and even move top of the league on goal difference. To say that it is a crucial weekend would be a major understatement and that is why recent injury news has come at the worst time.
Rohl reveals mystery “training” injury
As much as there is good reason for the Gers to be optimistic, there is one frustrating negative for Rangers to deal with. Rohl revealed a mystery training injury, ruling one star out of the Dundee United clash this weekend and until during the final split of the season.
“We have some small issues and one bigger issue. One player is going to be out for tomorrow.
“I won’t speak today about who it is. It is a big shame. It happened during training. Unfortunately not, it will be a little bit longer. Hopefully he comes back before the split but it looks more like it could be during the split.”
The German kept his cards close to his chest, which comes as little shock at this stage of the campaign, but didn’t hide the fact that it is a concerning blow.
More will be revealed when Rangers’ line-up emerges on Saturday afternoon, with Celtic and Hearts eagerly anticipating just how this mysterious injury could influence the title race.
It’s an interesting tactic from the Rangers boss, who is seemingly unwilling to give his rivals any advantage, no matter what it is in the next month.
