Rangers and Celtic Set to Battle for Tyrese Campbell Deal, Talks Already Held

Rangers and Celtic are set to go to battle over a deal to sign an English forward this summer as they both look to strengthen their attack, according to the Daily Record.

The Glasgow giants have both had disappointing campaigns as they sit behind Hearts in the Scottish Premiership table, with a lack of firepower to win them games being a crucial factor in their downfall.

Both clubs made moves in the January window to help, with Rangers bringing in Ryan Naderi on a permanent deal, while Celtic signed Tomas Cvancara and Junior Adamu on loan, but that hasn’t stopped them looking at other options to bolster even further.

Tyrese Campbell

Sheffield United striker Tyrese Campbell, who has been described as a ‘deadly finisher’, has emerged as a target for both Old Firm clubs ahead of the summer, after helping the Blades to avoid relegation from the Championship.

That came after both Rangers and Celtic showed an interest in signing the 26-year-old in January, but were told in no uncertain terms that Sheffield United would not sell one of their main strikers while they were in a battle against the drop.

Now Campbell will enter the final 12 months of his contract at Bramall Lane, and the Daily Record report that the two Scottish sides are likely to revisit their interest in the summer.

Both Rangers and Celtic have previously showed an interest in the striker, back in 2020 while he was at Stoke City, although he opted to pen a new deal with the Potters at the time rather than leave.

Now he will enter the final 12 months of his contract with Sheffield United, and they could look to cash in to ensure they don’t lose him for nothing, while they have a number of clubs showing an interest.

Rangers and Celtic Both Need Reinforcements

Rangers manager Danny Rohl looks on

Both clubs need striker reinforcements in the summer, and it would not be the first time where they are battling for the same target.

Campbell isn’t a prolific striker, but his overall play tends to help those around him improve their output, as he occupies defences and is tireless with his movement and pressing.

GIVEMESPORT asked ChatGPT who Campbell would fit better between Rangers and Celtic, and this was its response:

  • Rangers: Better fit – direct, transition-heavy style suits Campbell’s pace, power, and running in behind; can rotate or develop without being focal point.
  • Celtic: Less ideal – possession-heavy system demands sharper link play/finishing consistency, which has been inconsistent in his career
