Rangers have entered the hotly-contested race to sign highly-rated FC Zurich striker Philippe Keny, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
Rangers‘ current focus on the field is trying to win their first Scottish Premiership title since 2021, and they remain fully in the hunt as they lie three points behind leaders Hearts with two matches until the division splits, and seven games left to play in total.
Given the disappointing start to the campaign they made under Russell Martin, where drawing matches was the flavour of the month, the Light Blues have bounced back brilliantly under Danny Rohl and they are genuine contenders for the title.
Saturday’s win against Aberdeen, coupled with Celtic’s surprise loss at Dundee United, saw Rohl’s side usurp their Old Firm rivals in the table, and now they have their eyes on finishing first.
Plans are already underway off the pitch on how the 49ers will strengthen the squad ahead of next season, to ensure they don’t have such a negative start to the campaign again.
Rangers Preparing Major Recruitment Drive

Despite bringing in 14 players last summer, and another four during the January transfer window, Rangers owners the 49ers are said to be preparing a ‘major recruitment drive’ this summer to boost Rohl’s squad ahead of next season and to permanently overtake Celtic.
While 18 players may have arrived at Ibrox over the course of the last 12 months, there haven’t been too many huge successes. Mikey Moore has been one of those, but he is only on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, even if Rangers would be keen to bring him back in a similar agreement next term.
While the performances of Youssef Chermiti have improved as the season has gone on, Ryan Naderi has yet to fully get going and Bojan Miovski has been a bit of a flop.
It could mean that the striker position is one that the club and Rohl are seriously looking at in the summer.
Rangers Face Competition for Keny

According to O’Rourke, Rangers and high-flying Championship duo Coventry City and Wrexham are both tracking the powerful 6ft 3in striker ahead of the summer.
The Senegalese centre-forward has shot to prominence after scoring 12 goals in 25 appearances for FC Zurich following his summer switch to the Swiss side, and the 26-year-old is on the radar of many other clubs across Europe too.
Keny has shown his leadership qualities by captaining Zurich in recent weeks, and the journalist adds that a £6m agreement could seal a deal this summer.
What Qualities Would Keny Bring to Rangers?

A predictive analysis of Keny’s playing style provides a clear picture of why he is on Rangers’ radar.
‘Philippe Keny would likely bring a blend of pace, physicality, and direct attacking intent to Rangers.
‘Keny is known for his explosive speed and ability to stretch defences, making him a threat on counterattacks—something Rangers often look to exploit in both domestic and European matches. His physical strength allows him to compete with centre-backs, hold up play, and create space for teammates, which could complement Rangers’ attacking structure.
‘He also offers versatility across the front line. While primarily a striker, he can operate in wider roles, giving tactical flexibility. His pressing and work rate are additional assets, aligning with the high-energy style Rangers typically demand off the ball.
‘However, his end product—finishing consistency and decision-making in the final third—has sometimes been questioned. At Rangers, he would likely be viewed as a developing option rather than a guaranteed starter, with potential to grow under strong coaching.
‘Overall, Keny would add dynamism and depth, particularly useful in transitions and squad rotation.’
