Jamie Carragher completely lost it live on air with horrific trio after Manchester United game. He wants them gone

Jamie Carragher Slams Aston Villa Forward for ‘Horrific’ Performance Against Manchester United

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher did not hold back after Aston Villa’s disappointing defeat to Manchester United, launching a scathing attack on striker Ollie Watkins for what he described as a “horrific” display at Old Trafford.

The clash on Sunday saw United claim a comfortable 3-1 victory, with Villa struggling to create clear-cut chances despite dominating early possession. Watkins, usually Villa’s talisman with 18 goals this season, endured a nightmare afternoon. He missed two golden opportunities in the first half – one from six yards out after a pinpoint cross from Morgan Rogers – and was repeatedly caught offside or dispossessed under minimal pressure. His touch deserted him, and he failed to link up with captain John McGinn as Villa’s attack fizzled out.

Speaking on Monday Night Football, Carragher was ruthless. “That was horrific from Watkins,” he said. “You’re talking about a player who’s been one of the best strikers in the Premier League, but today he looked like he didn’t want to be there. The movement was poor, the finishing non-existent, and he let his teammates down. Unai Emery expects more from his No.9 – that performance simply wasn’t good enough for a team chasing top-four football.”

Co-pundit Gary Neville agreed the striker’s lack of sharpness was “puzzling,” while Villa fans on social media echoed the frustration, trending #WatkinsOut in the hours after the final whistle. Emery, however, remained diplomatic in his post-match press conference, insisting Watkins had been “tired after a tough week” and would bounce back.

The result leaves Villa in sixth place, four points off the Champions League spots with nine games remaining. Carragher warned that if key players like Watkins continue to underperform against big sides, Emery’s European ambitions could slip away. “Villa have the squad to compete, but you need your big players to deliver on the big stage,” he added. “Today, Watkins didn’t.”

With a home clash against Tottenham next, all eyes will be on whether the England international can silence his critics and rediscover the clinical form that made him a £50m-rated star. For now, Carragher’s brutal verdict has left Villa supporters demanding answers – and results.
