Thierno Barry Shares Statement as Friends Are Attacked by Everton Fans at Arsenal

Thierno Barry has issued a statement on social media after a video emerged online appearing to show his friends involved in an incident during Everton’s 2-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates.

In his statement, Barry said his friends were attacked by Everton supporters shortly after the full-time whistle of Saturday’s loss in north London.

The 23-year-old striker described the behaviour as ‘unacceptable’, saying football should be a place ‘where everyone feels safe and respected’.

Barry added that his friends had to be escorted from the stadium by Arsenal’s security staff and the police amid concerns for their safety.

Writing on his Instagram story, the French forward condemned the incident at the Emirates involving his friends, saying: “This kind of behaviour is not acceptable in a stadium. I bring my friends to enjoy a game, and it gets ruined by a few silly people.”

Football should be a place where everyone feels safe and respected. This type of attitude has no place in the game and is simply not tolerated in football.

“My friends and the people who were attacked had to be escorted by the Arsenal club’s security staff as well as the police because of fears of retaliation from our supporters.”

Barry also appears to have shared disturbing footage of the incident at the Emirates on his Instagram story.

Barry joined Everton in a £27m deal from Villarreal last summer and has scored six Premier League goals in 30 appearances since.

On Saturday, the 23-year-old was brought on as a second-half substitute for Beto in the 69th minute as both teams searched for an opening goal.

Arsenal finally broke the deadlock through Viktor Gyokeres in the 89th minute, before Max Dowman became the youngest Premier League goalscorer ever with a brilliant strike in added time.David Moyes ‘Very Disappointed’ With LossDavid Moyes

Speaking to Sky Sports after their 2-0 defeat, Everton boss David Moyes could not hide his disappointment after two late goals left the Toffees pointless on Saturday: “Really, really disappointed that we didn’t get something from the game.“

We definitely worked hard enough and earned it. Jordan [Pickford] could maybe do a bit better with the goal, but Jordan has made unbelievable saves for us that have won us games.

“Today we just needed it at the last minute when we needed him. Other than that, there are no problems at all. Lots of praise for the players.”

Before this game, Everton had lost only one of their previous 10 matches on the road. The Toffees next play on Saturday, March 21, when they host Chelsea.
