DANIEL FARKE RESPONDS TO PREMIER LEAGUE CHARGES WITH LENGHTY STATEMENTS FOLLOWING HIS CONTROVERSIAL RED CARD VS CITY

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has broken his silence following a contentious red card and subsequent Football Association charges, issuing a lengthy, heartfelt defense of his character. On Friday, March 6, 2026, Farke officially admitted to a charge of misconduct and accepted a one-match touchline ban and an £8,000 fine, though he did so while maintaining his innocence regarding the “aggression” of his conduct.
The incident occurred following Leeds’ narrow 1-0 defeat to Manchester City on February 28. Farke, known for his calm demeanor, made a “beeline” for referee Peter Bankes at the final whistle to question the lack of additional stoppage time. To the shock of the Elland Road crowd, Bankes immediately brandished a red card—the first of Farke’s 20-year managerial career.
In a series of candid statements, Farke expressed deep frustration, describing the dismissal as an “unnecessary public humiliation.” He insisted that no foul language or abuse was used, claiming the red card was out before he could even finish a sentence.

”To pull out a red card and embarrass me in front of the whole world, I wasn’t happy,” Farke stated. “I’m not light like a butterfly. I don’t look unbelievably cute and sweet when I jog… but I will never ever jog on the pitch again.”

The German tactician emphasized his lifelong respect for officials, noting that even Bankes’ assistants appeared surprised by the severity of the decision. While Leeds initially considered appealing the ban—citing potential “ref-cam” footage as evidence—Farke opted to accept the standard penalty to avoid a heavier two-match suspension.
This decision means Farke will be absent from the dugout for Sunday’s emotional FA Cup fifth-round clash against his former club, Norwich City. With Leeds currently sitting just three points above the relegation zone after a midweek loss to Sunderland, the manager’s forced absence comes at a critical juncture in the club’s battle for Premier League survival.
