BRIAN BROBBEY ISSUES RESPONDS TO MANCHESTER UNITED LINKS FOLLOWING STRONG INTEREST FROM THE CLUB

Manchester United’s pursuit of a new forward has led them back to a familiar target, as reports intensify regarding their strong interest in Sunderland and Netherlands striker Brian Brobbey. The 24-year-old forward has seen his profile skyrocket following a highly successful debut season in England and an impressive showing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, forcing him to address the growing speculation surrounding a marquee summer move to Old Trafford.
Brobbey, who moved from Ajax to Sunderland in 2025 for £25 million, became instrumental in guiding the Black Cats to a remarkable Europa League qualification. His physical presence, pressing ability, and hold-up play have drawn heavy praise from scouts. While United have long been admirers dating back to Erik ten Hag’s tenure, current manager Michael Carrick is reportedly looking to bring the Dutchman to Manchester to compete alongside and support Benjamin Šeško. The interest peaked further after Brobbey’s stellar World Cup performance against Sweden, where he scored a vital brace in a 5-1 routing.
Responding to the intensifying links, Brobbey remains focused on his current commitments but has previously acknowledged the allure of top-tier clubs. However, securing his services will not be easy for Manchester United. Sunderland executives view the striker as an indispensable part of their long-term project and are highly reluctant to sanction a sale. Having tied him down to a contract that runs until 2029, the Wearside club is reportedly considering a renewed bumper contract to reflect his massive importance. It is believed that only an astronomical offer in the region of £40 million to £50 million would even tempt Sunderland to sit at the negotiating table. With rival Premier League clubs like Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, and Aston Villa also monitoring the situation, Brobbey’s future is set to be one of the summer’s defining transfer sagas as United weigh up their official opening approach.
