Rangers made four signings in the winter transfer window, im
pressing club legend Ally McCoist.
Ally McCoist is loving what he’s seeing from a trio of Rangers signings – and one in particular.
Tuur Rommens, Tochi Chukwuani, Andreas Skov Olsen and Ryan Naderi all appeared in Sunday’s 4-2 victory over Hearts that moves Danny Rohl’s team within two points of the league leaders. While Skov Olsen has had a slower start than some expected in Govan, the remaining trio have all caught Ibrox icon McCoist’s eye.
He feels head coach Rohl deserves immense credit for getting the team back into title contention. McCoist reckons winter arrivals have aided their cause as clear upgrades, with Rommens in particular standing out from the pack.
Ally McCoist on Youssef Chermiti
The former striker told talkSPORT: “Rangers form, it’s been terrific. It really has. Danny Rohl has got them playing exceptionally well. I think they’ve only had one defeat since he came. They’ve only had two defeats in 27 games in the league which is remarkable from where they were. I think they were sitting third bottom at one time when he came. So the transformation with Rangers under Danny Rohl has been exceptional.
”Youssef Chermiti looks as though he might be a big occasion player. Two of his goals that he’d previously scored were at Celtic Park, when Rangers went to Celtic Park, and won the game comfortably. I watch him myself, and some of the things, I’m scratching my head. I watched him Sunday, he just looks a different level.
“I think he’s going to be one of these guys, every club and every supporter has had them over the years. They do things, and particularly centre-forwards, they’ll do things that’ll baffle you. They’ll have you scratching your head, and then the next minute, they’ll fire one into the top corner.
What Rangers signing has impressed Ally McCoist?
He looks as though he might be one of those guys because he scored a hat-trick on Sunday but his all-round play was a lot better as well. I like the other centre-forward signing, Naderi, I thought he looked the part and I think he’s going to be a good player. A couple of the signings have been very, very good. I mean, Chuckwaeni in the middle of the park, impressive.
“The star of the show, for me so far, is the left full-back Rommens. He’s come in and I think looked exceptional. I think for the first time in a long time, and it is very early in their Rangers careers, but you can only comment on what you’ve seen so far. The new signings look as though they’re of a better standard, let’s say, than they have been recently.
“Danny Rohl has gone about the job really well, I’ve got to say, and he’s been a breath of fresh air. The Rangers fans, correctly, are really taking to him. He’s got an influence about him. The first thing that’s happened is when he came into the club, somebody’s got a hold of him within the club, and pointed him in the direction of how things should be handled. Not so much what should be said, but what’s expected from a Rangers manager. He’s handling it at this moment in time very, very well.”
