2025 NFL Scouting Combine: John Lynch Talks Brock Purdy Contract Negotiations

At the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, San Francisco 49ers General Manager John Lynch provided an update on contract negotiations with quarterback Brock Purdy. Lynch confirmed that discussions have begun, stating, “We have started negotiations. We’re talking.” He emphasized the team’s commitment to Purdy, expressing a desire for him to remain with the franchise long-term, but stopped short of making definitive promises, acknowledging that “there are no guarantees that we get something done.”

Purdy, selected as the last pick of the 2022 draft, has exceeded expectations by leading the 49ers to two NFC Championship Game appearances and a Super Bowl berth. In his first full season as a starter in 2023, he set franchise records for passing yards and passer rating. With one year remaining on his current contract, earning $5.2 million for the 2025 season, Purdy is seeking an extension that could be worth up to $275 million, with some speculating he might command up to $60 million annually.

Lynch expressed optimism about reaching an agreement, noting that when both sides are motivated, there is ample opportunity to finalize a deal. However, he refrained from providing a timeline, stating that he would not speculate on when an extension might be completed.
